The Starfleet Ground Forces (SGF) was the branch of Starfleet concerned with ground based combat. They were the main force used to secure planets and to conduct planetary invasions.
Organisation[]
The Ground Forces used a similar departmental structure as Starfleet, with Command, Operations and Sciences. It also had more specialised units apart from the ordinary infantry. It had air, artillery and mechanised units to support the soldier on the ground. It also had electronic warfare units, whose role is to intercept and jam enemy transmissions (including transporters) and to make sure the Ground Forces' own signals could reach their destination.[1]

History[]
In 2373, a battalion of Ground Forces was stationed on Korvat III when the planet was invaded by the Klingon Empire. They managed to defend the planet until Starfleet reinforcements in the form of the 3rd Cruiser Wing, 24th Tactical Wing.[2]
