The USS Proxima[2] (NCC-61952)[1] was a Federation Nebula-class[1] exploratory cruiser that saw service during the latter half of the 24th century.
History[]
In 2369, under the command of Captain Juan Acero the Proxima was sent on a long term exploration mission in the Gamma Quadrant. During that time it made several first contacts.[3]
Several months after entering the Gamma Quadrant the ship made first contact with the Iorathites and visited their homeworld of Iorath. A four person delegation was sent to the surface to attend a welcoming reception.[3]
During the reception Captain Acero was kidnapped by the Dominion. The Proxima pursued the Dominion vessel and despite apparently been the more capable vessel it was overwhelmed by the Dominion vessel, which usd its phased polaron beams to bypass the ship's shields and destroy the bridge. An immediate boarding action by the Jem'Hadar saw the ship's main engineering captured resulting in Chief Engineer Gao Wei surrendering the vessel.[3]
By 2373, Starfleet presumed the Dominion had destroyed the Proxima.[2]
